'Mamma Mia!' and more: A look ahead to Priscilla Beach Theatre's 2022 season

PLYMOUTH – Six crowd-pleasing musicals, including Broadway titles, comprise the 2022 summer stock schedule for Priscilla Beach Theater, which was once a training ground for several famous actors, including Paul Newman, Jean Seberg, Albert Brooks, Jennifer Coolidge and Rob Reiner.

Kicking off the season is "Sisters of Swing,” April 29-May 7, a jukebox musical chronicling the Andrews Sisters, the famous sibling trio behind “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.”

The second production is “She Loves Me,” a romantic-comedy musical based on the short story that inspired the hit movie “You’ve Got Mail” with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. It runs May 27-June 4.

Set to the music of ABBA, the mega-musical “Mamma Mia!” is about a soon-to-be bride trying to determine which of her mother's three exes is her father. Bring your inner "Dancing Queen" to the barn June 30-July 16.

"Something Rotten!," the five-time Tony Award-winning musical that mocks Shakespeare as a booty-shaking word thief, hits the stage July 28-Aug. 13.

'Spencer' to 'Summer of Soul': Favorite films of 2021

For its next production, Sept. 2-10, the troupe will present "Forever Plaid," which tells the story of a Four Freshmen-type singing group who are on the verge of their big breakthrough when they're run over by a bus full of Beatles fans. The show includes such songs as "Three Coins in the Fountain," "No, Not Much,"' "Cry" and "Moments to Remember."

The season closer is “Disenchanted: A New Musical Comedy,” a royally hilarious look at storybook princesses behaving badly. The fun and frivolity reigns Oct. 7-15.

Priscilla Beach Theatre is recognized as one of the oldest and original barn theaters in the country.
