Man, 20, seriously assaulted near Celtic Park stadium

A young man has been seriously assaulted near Celtic FC’s stadium.

The victim, 20, was taken to hospital following the attack in Stamford Street, Glasgow, at around 4.30am on Saturday.

Police confirmed the man was found with “abdomen and chest injuries” in the area located close to Celtic Park stadium, in the city’s east end.

Officers cordoned off the street while they searched for clues.

Celtic beat Ross County 6-0 in a home Scottish Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon.

The Hoops are due to play at the stadium again on Thursday when they take on Lazio in the Europa League.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We were called to a report of a serious assault in the Stamford Street area of Glasgow around 4.30am on Saturday, October 19.

“A 20-year-old man was taken to hospital with abdomen and chest injuries.

“Inquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference number 0754 of October 19.”
