Man, 22, killed after off-road vehicle crashes on farm road, lands in Northern California canal

A man was killed following an off-road vehicle collision on a private farm road in Yuba County on Tuesday, authorities said.

The 22-year-old Browns Valley man was driving a Polaris General off-road utility vehicle around 4:45 p.m. east on a private farm road near Feather River Boulevard, east of County Road 512, according to Officer Brian Danielson, a spokesman with California Highway Patrol’s Yuba-Sutter office.

The utility vehicle then left the dirt road for an unknown reason and careered into an irrigation canal, Danielson said.

Drugs or alcohol are not considered a factor in the crash, authorities said.

Nearby farmworkers came upon the crash, pulled the man out of the canal and began CPR, authorities said.

First responders arrived on scene and continued life-saving efforts, and the man was transported to Adventist Health and Rideout hospital, Danielson said, where he was pronounced dead.

The Yuba County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the victim pending notification of the family.
