Man, 30, dies after running onto Fresno County road and into teen driver’s path, CHP says
A 30-year-old man died early Saturday after running into the roadway and being struck by a car on Mount Whitney Avenue in Fresno County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP Fresno Area Communication Center received a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian incident about 12:40 a.m., CHP spokesman Michael Salas said in a news release.
Officers learned the 16-year-old driver, from Riverdale, was going west on Mount Whitney west of Hayes Avenue in a 2005 Nissan 350Z.
“For unknown reasons at this time, a 30-year-old male pedestrian ran across the roadway in a southerly direction directly into the path of the Nissan,” Salas said in the release. “The driver of the Nissan was unable to take evasive action to avoid the pedestrian.”
The front of the Nissan struck the pedestrian and caused fatal injuries. The pedestrian, said to be from Fresno, died at the scene. His name will be released after notification is made to family.
Drugs or alcohol were not a factor for the teenage driver, according to Salas.
“The pedestrian’s sobriety is currently unknown pending toxicology results,” he said in the release.
The investigation remains ongoing.
