Man, 34, shot to death in Bronx 2 months after prison release

A 34-year-old man sprung from prison just two months ago was shot to death just down the block from his Bronx home early Wednesday, police said.

Three men ran from the scene and are being sought.

Hector David was shot in the left side of his torso in front of an apartment building on Carpenter Ave. near E. 221st St. in Williamsbridge at about 3:35 a.m.

The suspects, all clad in black clothing, fled south on Carpenter Ave., cops said..

The victim lived just down the block, according to cops.

David was conditionally released by parole on Oct. 12 after nearly two years behind bars for a Bronx conviction for assault and menacing a police officer, records show.

Most neighbors were asleep at the time of the shooting. But a Brooklyn man visiting his fiancee’s apartment, heard the shots.

“I was watching TV. I heard two shots, like, ‘pow pow,'” he said. “When I looked out, I just saw the police. I saw the lights.”

He declined to give his name because he feared retaliation.

A kitchen helper at Bronx Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center on Carpenter Ave. said he saw the victim’s body when he arrived at work later in the morning. He said the victim was wearing printed pajama pants when killed.

“They were facedown in the cold weather, the 66-year-old worker said. “This was 4 in the morning. By the time I went to call 911 the cops pulled up right here.”

“The cops asked me if I heard gunshots, and I said no,” the shaken worker added. “I just came to work. I told my boss I’m going home. It’s early in the morning for me to come to work and just see that.”

He ended up staying at work.

Brandon, 29, a school custodian who lives nearby, said the shooting was uncommon in his neighborhood.

“This is not something that regularly happens over here,” he said.
