A 35-year-old man is dead after he was struck by a pickup truck as he was crossing the street Sunday overnight in east Wichita, according to Wichita Police spokesman Juan Rebolledo.

Police responded to a 911 call of a hit-and-run about 1:10 a.m. in the 1900 block of E. Lincoln. Officers arrived and found Sedgwick County EMS working to save the man, Rebolledo said.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery. He was later pronounced dead, Rebolledo said.

The man was crossing Lincoln Street when he was struck by an unknown model black pickup truck heading east. It is unknown if the driver stopped to help the man before fleeing.

“The driver of the pickup truck left the scene after witnesses started to gather,” Rebolledo said.

The identity of the man has not yet been released. The incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to call WPD detectives at 316-268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
