A 40-year-old man was fatally shot in his Bronx apartment early Sunday, police said.
Edward Campbell was hanging out with friends inside his apartment on Tiebout Ave. near E. Fordham Road in Fordham Heights when the gunman blasted him once in the torso about 2:15 a.m., police said.
Police are not sure how the shooter gained access to the apartment but said Campbell had friends over and the door could have been left open.
First responders rushed the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital, but he couldn’t be saved.
The shooter ran off and has not been caught.
Shootings are up 77% citywide this year through May 30, with 637 people shot so far this year compared with 360 during the same time period last year. Murders are up 18% with 173 slayings so far in 2021 compared with 147 by the same time last year.
