Man, 63, lying on highway fatally struck by SUV in West Oahu

Dec. 3—A 63-year-old man has died after a vehicle hit him in West Oahu early today.

Honolulu police said a white 2016 Toyota 4Runner operated by a 61-year-old man was traveling eastbound on Farrington Highway when he hit the pedestrian just before Old Fort Weaver Road at about 5 :15 a.m.

At the time, the pedestrian, for unknown reasons, was lying on the roadway when the SUV struck him.

Police said the driver remained at the scene.

Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and pronounced the 63-year-old man dead at the scene.

Officers temporarily shut down lanes in both directions on Farrington Highway between Kualakai Parkway and Old Fort Weaver Road to investigate. The roadway reopened at about 8 :15 a.m.

Police said speed, alcohol or drugs were not factors.

This is the 41st traffic-related fatality on Oahu this year compared to 48 at the same time last year.
