Man, 66, dies after being struck by a vehicle while crossing highway in Maili

May 4—UPDATE : 6 a.m.

A 66-year-old Waianae man has died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Farrington Highway in Maili Monday night.

Police said a vehicle operated by a 33-year-old Waianae man was traveling westbound on the highway at about 8 :30 p.m. when he hit the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was outside of a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.

Police said the driver stopped to render aid. The pedestrian was taken in critical condition to a hospital where he later died.

Speed, alcohol or drugs were not factors.

This is the 19th traffic-related fatality compared to 14 at the same time last year.

The accident happened at about 8 :30 p.m. near Pelanaki Street, according to Emergency Medical Services. The man was taken to an area hospital.
