Man, 77, dies after crash on State Road 429, FHP says

A 77-year-old man is dead after losing control of his vehicle on State Road 429 early Sunday that caused all southbound lanes to close, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The man was driving southbound in his 2022 Toyota Tundra pickup near Mile Marker 28 in the Apopka area in Orange County when he lost control of the car and left the roadway, hitting a guardrail and overturning around 10:20 a.m., FHP said.

The man was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he later died. His passenger, a 73-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries but is in stable condition, according to FHP.

By nearly 3 p.m., all lanes of State Road 429 were reopened, according to a report by News 6.

The crash remains under investigation.
