Man, 98, dies after being struck by SUV driven by 86-year-old man near Boynton Beach

BOYNTON BEACH — A 98-year-old Boynton Beach-area man was killed this week when he was struck by a vehicle driven by an 86-year-old man, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators say George Fortier was walking in the 7200 block of Summer Tree Drive shortly before 3:30 p.m. Monday when he was hit by an eastbound Mercedes SUV. Fortier was taken to Delray Medical Center where he died a few hours later.

A Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office crash report identified the Mercedes driver as a man, 86, from suburban Boynton Beach. The driver remained at the scene and was not injured in the collision. The crash report did not indicate whether any charges or citations are pending against the driver.

Investigators say Fortier was walking on the edge of the roadway as the Mercedes negotiated a right-hand curve. Fortier was struck by the front right corner of the Mercedes, vaulted into the air and thrown a short distance, the report said.

He died shortly before 7 p.m.
