Man accused of assaulting his girlfriend as she held infant in Lucerne Valley

A man is accused of attacking and injuring his girlfriend as she held the couple's infant in Lucerne Valley this week, officials said.

Tyler Vaughn Freeman, 24, of Lucerne Valley was booked on suspicion of domestic violence, child abuse and making criminal threats following his arrest on Tuesday night, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff's department officials and jail records.

The alleged attack took place about 6:15 p.m. Monday in the 9200 block of Chicaksaw Trail.

After responding to a 911 call, "deputies learned the victim's boyfriend, Tyler Freeman, assaulted her while she was holding their infant," sheriff's officials said in a written statement.

The woman was treated for injuries at a hospital, officials said. The infant was not hurt.

Freeman had already left the home when deputies arrived, according to the department. An arrest warrant was issued.

Deputies found and arrested Freeman late Tuesday when he returned to the neighborhood where the assault took place, records show.
