The man accused in the 2020 killing of Kendra Hoskins is back in custody Tuesday more than a year after jumping his bond, prosecutors say.

Kyle Johnston, 38, is charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, felonious assault, tampering with evidence and a weapons charge.

Investigators said Hoskins and Johnston were in a relationship, and on April 4, 2020, they got into an argument in Hoskin's car. During the altercation, Johnston shot Hoskins in the abdomen with a 9 mm handgun, police said.

Clermont County Prosecutor Mark Tekulve reported that Johnston was able to post a $50,000 bond in February 2021. His bond had been reduced from $125,000.

As a condition of the bond, Johnston had to check in with the court regularly. That March he tested positive for methamphetamine and was ordered to a drug treatment program, Tekulve said.

Another bond hearing was scheduled for April because Johnston was failing to report in, but Johnston didn't show up, the prosecutor said.

"Ultimately, the prosecutor's office became aware that the defendant had fled to Georgia in an attempt to avoid prosecution," Tekulve said.

In Georgia, Johnston was eventually caught on additional charges in a separate case.

After his extradition back to Ohio, a judge raised his bond to $1,000,000. He is being held at the Clermont County Jail awaiting trial.
