Man accused of kidnapping woman and child while in Grand Chute parking lot, making her withdraw money from banks
GRAND CHUTE – A 51-year-old man is accused of kidnapping and robbing a Neenah mother and her young child in a Grand Chute parking lot Monday night.
Around 7:30 p.m. Monday, a 31-year-old Neenah woman and her 4-year-old child were getting into their vehicle in a parking lot in the 4300 block of West Wisconsin Avenue when the man walked up to them, according to the Grand Chute Police Department.
The man threatened the woman with a knife and took her keys, then drove the vehicle — a black four-door sedan — while both the woman and child were inside, to banks in the area. The man forced the woman to withdraw money and give it to him, police said.
The woman and child exited the vehicle in Neenah and reported the incident to the Neenah Police Department, who then shared information, including the vehicle's license plate number, with nearby agencies.
Both the woman and child were treated for injuries that were not life-threatening at a local hospital.
Through a "coordinated effort" between the Winneconne Police Department, Winnebago County Sheriff's Office and the Omro Police Department, law enforcement located the vehicle and took the suspect into custody, according to the Grand Chute Police Department.
The investigation is ongoing. The Grand Chute Police Department asks anyone with information to contact officers either in person, by phone at 920-832-1575, through the Grand Chute Police Department Facebook page or the department's app. Anyone who wishes to remain anonymous can text "GCPD" and an anonymous tip to 847-411.
Law enforcement has not yet released the name of the suspect. Police said the man is currently held in Outagamie County Jail, with referred charges of kidnapping, carjacking, robbery and felony bail jumping.
