A man is in jail after allegedly killing his estranged wife and taking his young son from the home, authorities said.

About 2:50 p.m. Saturday, neighbors in the area of 10000 S Land Avenue called police and said a woman inside a home appeared to be injured.

Police said the woman later died at an area hospital. Authorities have not revealed her cause of death.

During the investigation, police issued a public alert to find 5-year-old Simon Ainsworth, who was believed to have been taken by his father, Chase Ainsworth, 34.

Authorities said Ainsworth may have been armed with a knife and was driving a black 2012 Kia Soul.

About 7:20 p.m., police located Ainsworth near 12000 Chisholm Road, where they saw his son appear in the window of a house. Police have not released details about why Ainsworth went to the house.

After removing his son from the house, police negotiated with Ainsworth and arrested him.

Authorities booked Ainsworth into the Cleveland County jail. He is accused of first-degree murder and child stealing.
