Man accused of ramming into MNPD vehicles to evade police in stolen SUV

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man is behind bars after he rammed into police cruisers in a stolen SUV in downtown Nashville, officials said.

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) said the incident took place at approximately 11:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20 after officers observed a stolen gray Infiniti Q50 in the 100 block of 9th Avenue North.

Detectives attempted to perform a “tactical vehicle takedown” while the Infiniti was in a parking spot, according to an arrest report.

While performing the takedown, the driver — identified by authorities as 24-year-old Marvaughn McClerkin — attempted to evade law enforcement by ramming into multiple MNPD vehicles.

Some of the vehicles were occupied and McClerkin drove toward officials who were outside of their vehicles “placing three detectives in eminent danger and fear of serious bodily injury,” according to the arrest affidavit.

McClerkin was reportedly able to flee the area in the stolen SUV, which led MNPD’s Aviation Unit to follow him to the intersection of West End Avenue and Louise Avenue.

That’s when McClerkin, who was driving, and his passenger allegedly ran away. McClerkin was taken into custody in the area of 25th Avenue South and Kensington Place, officials said.

McClerkin remains jailed on a $116,000 bond.
