Man accused of robbing Homer City bank caught

Dec. 15—A Homer City man was arraigned Friday morning and jailed on $250,000 bail in connection with a bank robbery in the borough earlier this week.

Dylan Robert Clark Rider, 28, who lives within walking distance of the S&T Bank branch on North Main Street, was spotted Thursday afternoon in Wilkinsburg and later led authorities on a chase on Route 22, according to Trooper Cliff Greenfield. He is charged with robbery, theft, resisting arrest, fleeing from police and related offenses.

The search for a suspect started just after noon Wednesday when a man entered the bank, presented a note and fled with cash in a Chrysler Sebring. Troopers released surveillance images of the man in the bank and later identified Rider as the suspect.

License plate reader data showed the car headed west on Route 22 Wednesday about 30 minutes after the robbery. The next afternoon, police in Wilkinsburg stopped the car and Rider initially got out, but instead fled, Greenfield said.

A few hours later, after learning that the car was traveling east on Route 22 toward Indiana County, troopers tried another traffic stop but Rider is accused of fleeing again. During the ensuing chase, Greenfield said Rider drove at a high rate of speed and hit a state police patrol unit.

He eventually stopped and ran, but troopers apprehended him around 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the area of Route 119 and Snyder Lane in Burrell Township, east of Blairsville and not far from the border with Westmoreland County. Greenfield said Rider was trying to get in the driver's side door of a state police patrol car.

During a search of his wallet and car, troopers said they found cash bearing the same serial numbers logged as stolen from the bank and drawings of the interior and exterior of the bank. They seized a loaded rifle with a sawed-off barrel from the car.

Rider did not have an attorney listed in online court records. A preliminary hearing is set for Monday. He was being held at the Indiana County Prison.
