Man accused of sexual abuse of child under 12 in Decatur

DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) — A man turned himself in to Decatur Police this month after he was indicted by a grand jury for sexual abuse of a child under 12 years old.

The Decatur Police Department (DPD) says that they received a report of sexual abuse within the city limits in February of 2023. Upon further investigation, it was found that the suspect was a family friend of the victim.

The suspect was identified as 35-year-old Fulgencio Moguel. According to DPD, the results of the investigation were turned over to the Morgan County District Attorney’s Office.

The case was then presented to the Morgan County Grand Jury for consideration and as a result, an indictment for sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years of age was issued.

DPD says that Moguel turned himself into the Decatur Police Department on March 13th. He was transported to the Morgan County Jail on a $30,000 bond.
