A man accused of injuring three people, including a child, will make his first appearance in Gaston County court Tuesday morning.

According to police, Robert Louis Singletary opened fire in his Crowders Mountain neighborhood. Jamie White was struck with one of the bullets, his wife was grazed by another, and his 6-year-old daughter had a piece of shrapnel strike her cheek.

White was hospitalized but has since been released. Singletary reportedly fired at another man but missed.

The incident happened at 7:44 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, in the 4800 block of April Drive south of the Gastonia city limits.

According to neighbors, Singletary was annoyed with children playing in the neighborhood when he allegedly opened fire. The 24-year-old man left the area after the shots rang out, and warrants were issued for his arrest, police say.

Two days later, investigators took Singletary into custody in Tampa, Fla., where he turned himself in to police.

Over the weekend, detectives with the Gaston County Police Criminal Investigations and Special Investigations Units traveled to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Florida and returned him to North Carolina.

Singletary was taken before a Gaston County magistrate where he was placed on a hold.

He is charged with four counts of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a felon and interfering with an electronic monitoring device.

He is scheduled for his first appearance in court Tuesday morning.

Singletary was released from jail on an unsecured bond in December for allegedly beating his girlfriend with a miniature sledgehammer and holding her captive. He has a court date later this month on those charges.

Police say though Singletary is in custody, the investigation is ongoing, and they ask anyone with information about the incident to call Det. J. Brienza at 704-866-3320 or Crimestoppers at 704-861-8000.
