Man accused of stealing bike in armed robbery at Victorville gas station

Deputies arrested a man after they say he stole a bicycle during an armed robbery at a Victorville gas station on Sunday.

The crime took place about 12:20 a.m. at the Food 4 Less gas station at Bear Valley Road and 5th Avenue, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department officials said.

Derrick Darnell Young, 40, of Victorville threatened several people at the businesses while displaying a firearm he had tucked into his waistband, the department said in a written statement.

"Young robbed one of the victims of their bicycle and left the location," according to the statement. A responding deputy quickly identified Young as the suspect.

"A search warrant was served at Young's residence which led to the recovery of the stolen bicycle," the statement said. "A handgun, several high-capacity magazines, a large amount of narcotics, money, and drug paraphernalia were discovered during the search warrant."

The home was just around the corner from the gas station, well under a quarter-mile away.

Young was booked on suspicion of robbery, making criminal threats and possession of drugs for sale, according to county booking records.

Bail was set at $90,000 pending an initial court appearance, which was scheduled Tuesday in the Victorville branch of San Bernardino County Superior Court.
