'Sketchy' host allegedly locks out Airbnb guest: ‘I had to book a hotel at 1 a.m.’

A man claimed that his Airbnb host locked him out of his timeshare in the middle of the night.

TikTok user @stringbeanboy13 posted this video recounting his alleged nightmare Airbnb experience.

“Airbnb host locked the deadbolt, and I had to book a hotel at 1 a.m.,” he wrote, with sarcastic heart-eye emojis.

In the video, you can see the man staying in what appears to be the hotel room that he booked due to the inconvenient situation.

TikTokers ran to the comment section of the video to share similar inconveniences that they allegedly experienced with unprofessional Airbnb hosts. The TikTokers claim they contacted Airbnb Support to receive compensation for their extra travel expenses.

“Nah, because then you get a free trip on Airbnb. This happened to me once,” a TikTok user commented.

“This happened to me once, and Airbnb [compensated] the hotel stay that night. We ensured they [compensated] at least 50% of the rest of the trip,” another said.

According to Airbnb’s Rebooking and Refund Policy, travel disruptions reported no later than 72 hours after discovery may qualify guests for full or partial refunds. Additionally, alternate accommodations may be organized by Airbnb Support on behalf of the guest, depending on the guest’s circumstances.

“Thanks for the wisdom. I’ll definitely file a claim,” @stringbeanboy13 responded.

Other TikTokers expressed their alleged distrust towards Airbnb, with many tagging the company’s TikTok in the comment section to gain their attention.

“Airbnb is so sketchy like this,” a TikToker said.

“I’d rather be in a hotel. I will devour their entire continental selections,” another chimed in.

However, one TikTok user commented in defense of Airbnb. “I get so sick of hearing people blame the company for something a host did. The majority of millions who use Airbnb daily don’t have any issues,” the TikToker said.

Despite the stress that came with the situation, @stringbeanboy13 provided TikTokers with an update on his travel experience after contacting Airbnb Support.

“Got [a] 1/2 refund, [my] hotel reimbursed and [a] $200 future credit,” @stringbeanboy13 shared.
