Man who allegedly shot at victim arrested after crashing into a parked car

(KRON) – A Hollister resident was arrested for a shooting that occurred in Gilroy.

The Gilroy Police Department was alerted of a shooting in the 9000 block of Kern Avenue at 10 p.m. on Jan. 20.

Responding officers located a victim who was unharmed by gunfire. According to the police investigation, 27-year-old Hollister resident Joel Eduardo Valencia was in a physical altercation with the victim. Police said Valencia discharged a firearm and shot multiple rounds in the direction of the victim. According to police, there were several children in the same area as the victim.

Valencia fled in a black vehicle before officers were on the scene, police said.

Later that evening, Gilroy officers located Valencia’s vehicle and attempted a traffic stop near Mantelli Drive and Fuchsia Court. A vehicle pursuit ensued after the driver did not comply. The pursuit was terminated due to the potential danger to the public.

Valencia later crashed into a parked vehicle and a fire hydrant on First Street. In the vehicle, police found a loaded 9mm handgun.

Valencia was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.
