A man on a horse trotted down the Dan Ryan Expressway on Monday afternoon, slowing traffic and offering an unusual sight during rush hour.
The man appeared to be Adam Hollingsworth, known as the Dreadhead Cowboy, who can be spotted at Black Lives Matter protests on horseback.
Hollingsworth also teamed with Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s office to promote the census, galloping around the city to encourage Chicagoans to fill out the census survey.
A video posted Monday to a Facebook page for Hollingsworth shows the horseback ride along the expressway, with police trailing behind.
“I shut down the Dan Ryan, Kids Lives Matter,” he says in the video.
The man on horseback was detained by Illinois State Police, according to news reports.
Shortly before 4:30 p.m., state police received multiple calls about a subject riding a horse south at 47th Street, according to state police. “The subject and horse safely exited the Interstate at 95th Street,” according to a statement from state police.
