A man was quickly apprehended after robbing a San Angelo convenience store and assaulting a cashier early Thursday, July 28, 2022, according to a San Angelo Police Department news release.

Police officers were dispatched about 3:13 a.m. Thursday to the Stripes convenience store at 1322 S. Abe St. in reference to a robbery in progress, the release stated.

Officers arrived on the scene and learned that the suspect had fled without a vehicle. They were able to locate him hiding in the backyard of a residence less than two blocks away.

Civilian bystanders who assisted the officers on scene were credited with helping the suspect be apprehended, according to the release.

A preliminary investigation revealed the suspect went around the cashier's counter, physically assaulted a 25-year-old female cashier, and stole approximately $300 in cash and $140 in merchandise.

The cashier was transported to Shannon Medical Center by a private vehicle to be treated for minor injuries.

Nathaniel Lohman, 24, was charged with robbery and transported to Tom Green County Jail.
