Man Argues With Gold Coast Cafe Staff Over COVID-19 Rules
A man was asked to leave a cafe in Queensland’s Gold Coast on August 10 after he refused to wear a mask and began arguing with staff.
This footage by Michelle Rigden shows the man, wearing a shirt that reads “COVID IS A SCAM!!!”, telling the owner of Zarraffa’s Coffee in Robina to “learn the law” before threatening to sue her for banning him from the cafe.
“Why am I not welcome in this store?” he asks. The owner replies, “Because you’re making my staff feel uncomfortable.” The man eventually leaves after repeated requests from the owner.
The video comes amid spikes in coronavirus cases in some of Australia’s most populous areas, including the Gold Coast. As of August 15, health authorities estimated there were 6,577 active cases across the country with 427 people hospitalized. Credit: Michelle Rigden via Storyful
