Man arrested after 1 injured in Carthage shooting

CARTHAGE, Texas (KETK) – A Beckville man was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after a shooting Monday night in Carthage.

According to Carthage PD, they received a 911 about a reported shooting around 9:25 p.m. in the 500 block of Reese Street. Officials said when police got to the scene they found a man who had been shot lying in the yard.

The man allegedly told police that CD, whose full name is Corey Ward, had shot him before leaving in a dark colored Tahoe.

According to police, a witness at the scene said they saw someone shoot the man “at point plank range” who left the scene in the same car.

Officials said a Panola County deputy observed a car matching the description entering Beckville, and after conducting a traffic stop, the driver was identified as Ward. One weapon was reported to be in plain view to authorities and another gun with extra ammo was found.

Ward was booked into the Panola County Jail for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, prohibited weapon and two charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

Carthage PD said they were assisted by the Panola County Sheriff’s Office, Panola County District Attorney’s Office, Texas DPS and the Panola County Fire Marshal in Ward’s arrest.
