Man arrested for 130 mph chase from Michigan into Indiana
WHITE PIGEON TWP. — Deputies said a man led police on a high-speed chase through two Southwest Michigan towns before crossing the border into Indiana, where he was arrested.
Around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, police tried to stop a white SUV that was speeding through White Pigeon. Instead, the vehicle fled eastbound on US-12 at up to 130 mph. Police followed it east through White Pigeon and Sturgis Township.
The vehicle eventually ran into stop sticks that the Sturgis Police Department had set out. It then headed south into Indiana. White Pigeon police and St. Joseph County sheriff’s deputies followed the SUV until LaGrange County sheriff’s deputies and Indiana State Police took over.
Officers and deputies continued chasing the vehicle west on the Indiana Toll Road and then back east again, eventually stopping at a Holiday Inn Hotel in Lima Township, Indiana, just south of the border. The suspect got out and tried to run away on foot. LaGrange County deputies chased and eventually arrested him.
The suspect, a 33-year-old man from Washington D.C., was arrested and booked into the LaGrange County Jail for fleeing and eluding. More charges from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office and White Pigeon Police Department are expected.
No one was injured in the chase, deputies said.
