Man arrested, accused of supplying drugs that led to Larimer County woman's overdose death

Editor's note: This story has been updated. There have been three cases of distribution of fentanyl resulting in death filed in the 8th Judicial District as of May 1.

An Evans man has been arrested on accusations that he sold a Larimer County woman the illegal drugs that led to her overdose death.

Larimer County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a home in the 5900 block of Palmer Court in the Ptarmigan neighborhood southeast of Fort Collins on Nov. 11 after an adult female was found dead in her home by one of her family members, according to a news release.

Investigators found no signs of foul play, but they did find multiple substances they later determined were fentanyl pills and cocaine, according to the sheriff's office. Investigators say they believe some of the fentanyl pills were sold to the woman as oxycodone but were actually counterfeit drugs, according to the news release.

Investigators say they identified Rodolfo Dominguez, 56 of Evans, as the man who allegedly sold the drugs to the woman.

Dominguez was arrested last week and booked into the Larimer County Jail on the following charges: Distribution of fentanyl resulting in death, a Class 1 drug felony; distribution of cocaine and distribution of oxycodone, both Class 3 drug felonies.

Dominguez remains in the Larimer County Jail as of Thursday afternoon on a $750,000 bond. He is next scheduled to appear in court May 2.

This is the third case in which the 8th Judicial District Attorney's Office has charged a person suspected of supplying fentanyl in an overdose death. A Fort Collins woman, 40-year-old Andrea Branco, was arrested in September on a charge of distribution resulting in death, a new criminal charge created by the Colorado legislature with the intention of strengthening the possible penalties for people distributing fentanyl.

Branco's case is ongoing, and she remains in the Larimer County Jail on a $500,000 bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for May 25.

A Loveland man was arrested in January for allegedly supplying the fentanyl that killed a 15-year-old in July. The man, 30-year-old Samuel Strait, remains in the Larimer County Jail on a $750,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 12.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in court. Arrests and charges are merely accusations by law enforcement until, and unless, a suspect is convicted of a crime.
