Man arrested after allegedly killing grandfather in Frederickson, deputies say

A man is in custody after an 80-year-old man was killed at a house in Frederickson, Pierce County deputies said.

Pierce County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded about 9:42 a.m. to the home after a 911 caller told dispatchers that her son had killed his grandfather. Deputies arrived and surrounded the home on 50th Avenue Court East off of Military Road East.

Deputies called out on a loudspeaker, telling the man to come out of the house. Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Sgt. Darren Moss said the 29-year-old man left the home and surrendered without incident.

Inside the door of the home, deputies found the 80-year-old man dead. Moss said detectives and forensic investigators responded to the crime scene. It’s not clear how the man was killed or what led up to his death. At about 12:40 p.m., Moss said deputies were waiting for a search warrant to be approved to investigate inside the home.

Moss said the 29-year-old suspect was interviewed by investigators, and that he will be booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of the murder.

The victim’s death brings the county-wide homicide total in 2022 to 35. At the same time last year, the number of killings across Pierce County totaled 16.
