Man arrested for allegedly threatening violence toward employees at Wethersfield DMV

A Norwalk man was arrested for allegedly making threats toward the Department of Motor Vehicles in Wethersfield on Monday, according to the Connecticut State Police.

Troopers from Troop H were dispatched to the DMV office in Wethersfield on State Street on Monday around 1 p.m. to meet with an employee who reportedly received a threat over the phone. The staff member said feared for their safety and the safety of their fellow employees, according to state police.

The employee told police that a man, identified as 26-year-old Jakari Burks of Norwalk, had contacted the department over 20 times by phone and around 75 times via email, state police said. During one of the phone conversations, he allegedly threatened to go to the DMV location and commit an act of violence against employees, according to state police.

Burks turned himself in to state police on Monday and was arrested. He was charged with second-degree breach of the peace and second-degree threatening.

He was released on a $5,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on Oct. 17.
