Man arrested for allegedly throwing rocks, debris on SR-900 near Renton

A man was arrested by the Washington State Patrol on Tuesday morning for allegedly throwing rocks and debris on state Route 900 near 164th, near Renton.

Shawn L. Perantie, 53, was taken into custody without incident.

Perantie is accused of causing over $2,200 in damage and will be booked on charges of malicious mischief and reckless endangerment.

“I hope this guy gets some help and I think the sad part of all this is that there’s been a lot of people, including myself that’s been frightened by this guy and that’s saying it lightly,” said Tom Godfrey, whose car was damaged by Perantie.

Godfrey said his 2015 Stingray Corvette was hit by this person back in July. He was going eastbound on SR-900.

“It’s the car of my dreams,” Godfrey said.

“So, I figured it’s a beautiful day, I’m going to take the top off and I’m just going to relax and go down to the road, down to the store, and I’m going to take the long way home, right?” Godfrey said.

He said he noticed a man walking near his car when he was stopped.

“And all of a sudden, I see out of the corner of my eye his arm go up. And all I see is my window get completely shattered,” Godfrey said.

“I just get goosebumps talking about it and I start shaking and stuff,” Godfrey said.

He said the trouble didn’t stop there.

“So, I got out of my car. I’m talking to him across the street, and all of sudden, he starts running at me. So, now I’m thinking he’s going to destroy my car,” Godfrey said.

“Met him halfway and we sat out there and fought in the middle of the road for like three or four minutes. Traffic stopped,” Godfrey said.

Godfrey said that during the fight, he tried to call 911, but couldn’t. Luckily, Duane Anderson, who owns a business near where this happened, saw what was going on and called 911.

“And then, he came up to me and he was just shaking like a leaf and he couldn’t use his phone because he couldn’t control his fingers,” Anderson said.

Anderson said he had seen the rock thrower on several occasions and believed he could cause more trouble.

“I mean, the guy’s dangerous. No question about it,” Anderson said.
