Man arrested on attempted murder charges after shooting at ex-girlfriend, police say

A man was arrested Tuesday after police say he shot at his girlfriend's car in the parking lot of a Tallahassee Motel 6 in late November.

Jonathan Curry, 21, remains in the Leon County Detention Facility without bail on two counts of attempted second-degree murder and one charge of shooting into an occupied vehicle.

Police arrived at the hotel, 2738 N. Monroe St., around 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 25, after two 911 calls reporting gunfire.

In the early stages of the investigation, a TPD officer interviewed one of the victims who told police she dated Curry before providing them with his full name and a photo.

She said Curry came to the motel to get his personal items, which she placed outside her room door. An argument ensued.

She got in her car with a friend and attempted to drive away but Curry stood in the way, she recounted to police. She drove around him before he punched the window of her car and began firing.

Police later confirmed the chain of events with security camera footage and statements from the manager and another witness, court records said. They also saw the back window of the victim's car was shattered before recovering three .22 caliber casings in the parking lot.

Recorded phone call

Right after the shooting, the two women went to Hungry Howies, where they made contact with police. During an interview, Currry called his ex-girlfriend, who put the phone on speaker.

"Curry detailed the reason he was angry (being rejected)," an officer wrote in an arrest affidavit.

She replied: "That doesn't give you a right to shoot at my window."

"Two shots. One for you, one for her," Curry was recorded saying before threatening his ex-girlfriend and her family.

"Someone's house is going to end up on the news," he said.

Behind the scenes, officers attempted to coach the woman on getting Curry to reveal his location. He never did.

The arrest

More than a week later, TPD officers called Curry, who said he was at the Motel 6 before denying any involvement in a shooting.

After telling an officer his relationship ended "over the issue with his belongings," he agreed to meet for an interview the next day. He was subsequently arrested.

An officer wrote: "Based on the facts and circumstances of the investigation, there is probable cause to charge Curry with two counts of attempted second degree murder."
