Man arrested after bank robbery in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. – A man was arrested after allegedly robbing a bank in Jackson County Tuesday afternoon, police say.

According to Indiana State Police, just before 2:30 p.m., officers responded to the Jackson County Bank at the intersection of Main and Commerce Streets in Brownstown, Indiana. Police say dispatchers with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department were notified of a bank alarm at the location.

Officers from several agencies responded quickly to the location and obtained information from a witness, who reported that a male suspect ran through his yard and got into a black passenger car that was occupied by two females before leaving the area.

Within minutes, an officer observed a black Nissan passenger car matching the description traveling west on Vallonia Road, just outside of Brownstown. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.

Police say the male suspect, 35-year-old Jeremiah Bragg, exited the rear passenger seat of the car holding a handgun and a large amount of cash. Bragg dropped the gun and was eventually arrested by officers, according to police.

Detectives say they found information indicating that Bragg was the suspect who entered the bank, pointed a gun at the teller, and left with $900 in cash.

Bragg remains in the Jackson County Jail on a preliminary charge of robbery. The two females that were in the car with Bragg were soon released by police.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and more charges could be filed.
