Man arrested in Amanda Dean’s disappearance: I-TEAM

HURON COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) — A Huron County man has been indicted on felony charges – including murder – in connection with the disappearance six years ago of his girlfriend Amanda Dean, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced Saturday.

The FOX 8 I-Team first reported that the man was arrested Friday in the cold case of Amanda Dean, a Huron County mother who has been missing since 2017.

Police sources told the FOX 8 I-Team that 40-year-old Frederick Robert Reer was arrested by a BCI agent after a secret indictment was unsealed. He’s being held in the Huron County Jail.

Cleveland Missing confirmed that grand jury indictments, including charges of murder, gross abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence, were issued on Friday.

Dean was last seen in Collins, about 7 miles east of Norwalk, on July, 11, 2017. Early last year, family members told FOX 8 she was a victim of domestic abuse.

Investigators initially told Dean’s family members that she was at a safe house and not missing, but family members said it was unlike her to drop contact.

Family members said they hadn’t known of her whereabouts for years. They told FOX 8 they believe she was a victim of violence and that she was being held against her will in a cabin, noting that they received threats after she went missing.

The Huron County Sheriff’s Office confirmed last January that the investigation was being resumed. Back in November, a BCI spokesperson confirmed to FOX 8 that investigators were searching near Collins.

“While the case is still unfolding, the family of Amanda Dean is grateful for the work put forth by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation who took over the case in December 2022,” Cleveland Missing said in a press release on Friday.

Reer is expected in court on Monday, police sources told the I-Team.

“So many memories won’t include Amanda, as her killer robbed these children of a life with their mother,” Yost said. “Her family deserves justice.”
