Man charged with murder in connection to Zavalla death

ZAVALLA, Texas (KETK) – The Angelina County Sheriff’s Office said a man was arrested in Arkansas on Friday in connection to the death of a man from Zavalla.

According to the sheriff’s office, Lawrence Jason Wise was found dead in a shed near a residence at Hutch Hopson Road and Hopsonville Road ten miles southeast of Zavalla on Tuesday. Preliminary medical examiner findings reportedly revealed a possible gunshot wound.

Early Friday morning, officials said that the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas arrested Jeremy Wayne Gladden, 40 of Zavalla, as a suspect for unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Officials said that the vehicle, a white Chevrolet S-10, belonged to Wise and was taken from the crime scene. Deputies wanted to question Gladden, but he reportedly left town.

Johnson County officers were contacted because Gladden reportedly had family in Arkansas. Their sheriff’s office reportedly located the Chevrolet at a relative of Gladden’s residence near Coal Hill, Arkansas.

Gladden was later spotted and arrested after a brief foot chase. Angelina County deputies arrived in Clarksville on Friday afternoon to interview Gladden who reportedly made statements about the incident.

The sheriff’s office said their investigation is ongoing.
