Man arrested, held without bond on suspicion of killing Springfield woman

The main suspect in a Springfield woman's death called 911 after finding her unresponsive in his residence, according to police records. Jerome Poole, 59, was arrested and is being held at the Greene County Jail without bond.

This homicide investigation is SPD's second for 2023, according to a Springfield Police Department press release.

According to court documents, Poole called 911 in the early morning Tuesday after he found 41-year-old Crystal M. Dye of Springfield unconscious and not breathing. When law enforcement and first responders arrived, Poole told officers that "15 minutes ago (Dye) was up and talking." Despite medical aid, Dye was declared dead at Pool's residence in the 200 block of south Clifton Avenue.

In a later interview with Springfield police, Poole said that no one else was in the residence with him and Dye.

Greene County Medical Examiner Dr. Dieter Duff determined during an autopsy that Dye had sustained serious internal injuries, likely from assault, according to the press release. Duff also said that Dye had injuries consistent with strangulation.

On Wednesday, Poole was arrested and booked into the Greene County Jail for second degree murder.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone who has information about this incident is asked to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or to call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-TIPS (8477).
