Man arrested after leading officers on chase, escaping police interview room in Florence

FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Florence Police Department (FPD) says that a domestic call led to a man being arrested on Tuesday.

FPD said that they responded to a domestic call in the 100 block of Park Circle on December 6, 2023. The victim told officers that the suspect had left the house in a vehicle.

On the way to the home, officers noticed the suspect vehicle but the suspect led them on chase. A short time later, the suspect got out of the car and started to run from officers.

According to FPD, the suspect was identified as 41-year-old Reginald Neil Freeman, of Tuscumbia. After further investigation, it was determined that Freeman had kicked in the door and entered his ex-girlfriend’s home where multiple items were damaged.

Freeman was taken to the Florence Police Department to speak to investigators. However, while waiting for the interview Freeman was able to escape the department through an unlocked door in the interview room.

Officers said that Freeman was arrested in Muscle Shoals by the US Marshals Service Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force on Tuesday, January 30, after multiple warrants were issued for him.

Eleventh Judicial Circuit Judge indicted for misusing court funds, perjury

Freeman was charged with the following:

  • Domestic Burglary 2nd degree

  • Domestic Violence Criminal Mischief 3rd degree

  • Attempting to Elude a Police Officer

  • Possession of Marijuana 2nd degree

  • Escape 3rd degree

Freeman is being held on a $40,500 bond.
