Man arrested on manslaughter charge in Bryan County

MEAD, Okla. (KFOR) – A Bryan County man was arrested on Wednesday on a First-Degree Manslaughter charge.

According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office requested the bureau’s help on April 28, 2023, to investigate the death of 40-year-old Amanda Welch.

LOCAL NEWS: Caddo Co. D.A. seeks death penalty for caretaker of Athena Brownfield

The OSBI began investigating and interviewed 66-year-old Richard Booker, who was with Welch when first responders arrived.

Officials say Welch’s probable cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, neck and torso. An arrest warrant was later issued for Booker on a First-Degree Manslaughter charge.

According to OSBI, Booker was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 14, and booked into the Bryan County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
