A 64-year-old man was arrested in Yorkshire, England on Wednesday in connection to the tragic death of Cardiff City soccer player Emiliano Sala. NBC Sports reported that the man was arrested on suspicion of “manslaughter by an unlawful act.”

Sala, 28, died on January 21 while traveling by plane from France to England. The plane, which contained just Sala and pilot David Ibbotson, crashed into the English Channel. Neither man survived, but only Sala’s body has been recovered.

Just days before the crash, Cardiff City signed Sala for a record $19 million. He was in Nantes, France to say goodbye to his friends and teammates on his previous team, FC Nantes, before traveling to England to make his debut for Cardiff City.

It’s unclear how this unnamed Yorkshire man is connected to Sala’s plane crash. The Dorset Police declined to give any details, but Detective Inspector Simon Huxter of Dorset police’s major crime investigation team spoke about the arrest. Via the Guardian:

“We have carried out a wide-ranging investigation into the circumstances of the death of Mr Sala and continue to work with partner agencies including the Civil Aviation Authority.

“As part of this investigation we have to consider whether there is any evidence of any suspected criminality and as a result of our inquiries we have arrested a 64-year-old man from the North Yorkshire area on suspicion of manslaughter by an unlawful act.

“He is assisting with our inquiries and has been released from custody under investigation.”

Huxter also said that the name of the man would not be released unless he’s charged to appear in court.
