A man has been arrested after a 10-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in a Boots store at Victoria railway station in London.

The schoolgirl was allegedly attacked in the chemist in Victoria Place Shopping Centre on Saturday afternoon, police said.

British Transport Police (BTP) launched an appeal for information on Monday and released CCTV images in a bid for witnesses to come forward.

A 31-year-old man was arrested at his home in Kent on Tuesday morning on suspicion of sexual assault and was taken into custody for questioning by detectives.

Detective Constable Tony Gittins, of the BTP, described the attack as “particularly disturbing" given the victim's age.

A spokesman for the force said on Tuesday: "Thank you to everyone who shared our CCTV appeal yesterday following a sexual assault on a 10-year-old girl at London Victoria.

"As a result of your help, a 31-year-old man has been arrested this morning at his home address in Kent and taken into custody for questioning."
