Man arrested after shooting at Petrified Forest National Park

An Arizona national park shooting from last week has led to a man's arrest as prosecutors consider adding a murder charge.

Matthew Lamar Williams, 21, of Chambers, is charged with felony endangerment and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Apache County Sheriff's Office.

Williams was taken into custody Saturday in a Sept. 20 incident at the Petrified Forest National Park, in the northeastern part of the state.

"While driving into a remote area of the park, an unmarked park vehicle carrying two employees was hit by a bullet," read a tweet from the National Parks Service. "No one was injured in the shooting."

The Apache County District Attorney's Office is reviewing the case as it considers an attempted murder charge, the Sheriff's Office said.
