Man Arrested for Skipping $70 Bill, Using Slurs and Assaulting Sushi Restaurant Owner in Virginia

A man accused of assaulting an Asian restaurant owner in Arlington, Virginia after dining and dashing has been arrested on Tuesday.




What happened: The suspect allegedly shoved the restaurant owner of Bonsai Grill in Crystal City and used racial slurs against her and her son on May 4.

  • He allegedly consumed $70 worth of sushi rolls before taking off without paying.

  • The owner and her son, Henry Kim, followed him outside the restaurant.

  • When Kim called 911, the suspect allegedly became aggressive and pushed his mother to the ground.

  • “Get out of my face [expletive]. You Asians have the coronavirus. I don’t want it from you guys. Get away,” the suspect allegedly told them, according to NBC Washington.





The charges: The suspect, identified as Jordan Bevan, 28, was charged with defrauding an innkeeper, felony assault and battery.

  • Authorities said he has "no fixed address," according to FOX 5 DC.

  • The 28-year-old was arrested on Tuesday after one officer recognized him from a previous interaction.

  • Bevan allegedly dined and dashed at another restaurant in Pentagon City twice in two days.

  • The latest incident was reported to Virginia State Police as a possible hate crime.


Kim said his mother was hurt in the elbows and hands but is doing "a lot better."
