Man arrested in west Phoenix murder case

Police made an arrest in a Jan. 18 shooting that left a man dead and another injured in west Phoenix.

Robert Alexis Hernandez, 19, of Phoenix, is charged on suspicion of first-degree murder during a crime and armed robbery with a deadly weapon, according to police and jail records. He was taken into custody Tuesday, suspected in the fatal shooting of Aaron Joseph Hernandez, 18, according to Phoenix police. It is unclear if the two men are related.Around 8:14 p.m., Aaron Hernandez and another man were in his vehicle near North 80th and West Indianola avenues, meeting with a third man later identified as Robert Hernandez who was in the backseat, police said.

Multiple gunshots were fired, killing Aaron Hernandez and wounding the passenger, according to police. Robert Hernandez left with gunshot injuries and was picked up by an unknown person and dropped off at a hospital, police said.

Robert Hernandez was initially jailed Jan. 18 after authorities found he had two felony warrants and is on probation, according to charging documents.

Detectives identified Robert Hernandez as the suspect in the case through interviews and evidence, according to police. Robert Hernandez was interrogated and booked into jail, police said.

Robert Hernandez is being held on a $7,500 bond and his next court appearance is set for Monday, according to jail records.
