Man arrested after young child walks out unlocked door, wanders around Springfield

A man is now facing charges after a young child was found wandering in Springfield early Sunday.

Julian Gee Jr, 26 is facing one charge of child endangering, according to Clark County Municipal Court records.

Gee has pleaded not guilty.

On Oct. 22 around 12:45 a.m. Springfield officers were called to meet up with an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper who said he was flagged down by a bystander.

The bystander told the state trooper they spotted a child on the corner of the street in her pajamas and no shoes.

The child was said to be crying and confused, according to an affidavit.

Children’s Services contacted the girl’s mother who said that the girl was left with a family friend, identified as Gee.

He told officers he was watching other children including the young girl.

The girl’s mother picked up her oldest child, who was also staying with Gee, and left the young girl since she was asleep.

During the night the girl woke up, couldn’t find her sister, and walked out the unlocked front door, an affidavit alleges.

Police said it was 41 degrees outside and the girl had no coat, no shoes or socks.

Gee was located the next morning, arrested, and booked into the Clark County Jail.
