Man believed to be in his 70s robs Holmdel jewelry store

HOLMDEL−Detectives are searching for an older unknown man who walked into Kay Jewelers o Route 35 around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and robbed the place of jewelry with a handgun, police said.

The robber, described by police as a thin white man with a possible Russian accent in his early 70s, wearing a jeans, a dark jacket, wool hat, face mask and sneakers, displayed a gun that was secured in his waistband and demanded the store employees to turn over all the "men's gold," police said.

The employees turned over jewelry and the robber fled on foot, police said.

No one was injured.

The man is believed to have walked to the rear of the building toward Kohl’s Plaza.

Police are urging anyone with information to call Holmdel Detectives Andrew Kret or Michael Nolan at 732-946-4400.
