Man out on bond, awaiting trial in 2018 homicide, arrested in Clarksville Waffle House shooting

A Clarksville man who was out on bond and awaiting trial in connection with a 2018 homicide has been arrested in connection with a shooting Sunday at a Waffle House in Clarksville.

Mark “Bubba Rachi” Ellis, 28, was taken into custody Tuesday and charged in the Jan. 23 incident that left three people shot and several others wounded by shards of glass, according to a news release Clarksville Police issued Thursday.

The Clarksville Police Department responded to the Waffle House at 1683 Fort Campbell Blvd. just before 3 a.m. Sunday. Three people had been shot in the parking lot, and several patrons were injured by flying glass, investigators said.

Ellis was later determined to be a suspect.

He was indicted by a July grand jury in connection with the 2018 homicide of Taren Lyles.

Police said Lyles was shot and killed in front of her children inside her vehicle. Ellis was arrested on July 22. He was released from the Montgomery County jail on $1,235,000 bond the following month, according to booking records.

While serving the arrest warrant for the Waffle House incident, investigators allegedly found a loaded gun and a felony amount of narcotics on Ellis, according to police spokesman Scott Beaubien.

Ellis has been charged with two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He has also been charged with possession for resale (narcotics), simple possession/casual exchange and unlawful drug paraphernalia, according to Beaubien.

Ellis has a federal detainer, which means he is scheduled to be transferred into federal custody.
