A man was carjacked Sunday morning on Lake Shore Drive, officials said, hours after an earlier Loop carjacking resulted in another stolen car.
About 8:30 a.m., a 53-year-old man was driving on Lake Shore Drive near the 200 block of East Balbo Drive when he pulled over after a minor crash with another car, according to police. Those in the other car approached the man, at least one with a gun, announced a robbery and fled in the 53-year-old’s car, police said.
The 53-year-old man was not treated for any injuries, police said.
On Saturday night, a 34-year-old man was driving his Audi in the 200 block of North LaSalle Street when a white sedan bumped him from behind shortly before 9 p.m., police said. The 34-year-old pulled over and got out of his car to exchange information, and then a man left the passenger seat of the sedan and pointed a gun at him, according to police. The gunman demanded the driver’s keys, which he handed over, and told the others in the Audi to get out. He then fled in the Audi, along with the driver of the sedan, police said.
No injuries were reported, police said.
No one was in custody in either case and detectives were investigating, police said.
Victims of carjackings shared their stories with the Tribune earlier this year, when the number of carjackings in the city for the year through mid-March was higher than it had been since at least 2001.
