Man charged with attempted murder, accused of swerving car to hit three people in Sheboygan

SHEBOYGAN - Sheboygan County prosecutors charged a 41-year-old man with attempted first-degree intentional homicide after he was accused of hitting a woman with his car last month.

Jasmaine Linton, from Milwaukee, was also charged with first-degree reckless injury and first-degree recklessly endangering safety.

Witnesses told police that after a man later identified as Linton was escorted out of a bar near Indiana Avenue and South Ninth Street in Sheboygan, he took a U-turn in the intersection before crossing over traffic lanes and accelerating toward two men and a woman, according to the criminal complaint. The incident happened in the early morning of Nov. 6.

Video surveillance showed that the two men were able to jump out of the way of the car, but the woman was hit and flew 10 to 15 feet in the air, police said. One man punched through the driver's side window and the other tried to climb through the passenger side window in an attempt to stop the driver before he pulled away, police said.

The woman was transported to Aurora Medical Center and then flown to Theda Care Regional Medical Center for her injuries, which included a snapped femur.

The two men who told police they jumped out of the way of the car said that before the incident, the driver had been escorted out of the bar for acting in a disorderly manner. Both told police the driver had said he was going to kill them, according to the criminal complaint.

A bartender told police the driver had given him a business card, which listed Linton’s address in Milwaukee, police said.

If found guilty of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, Linton could face a maximum of 60 years in prison. If found guilty of first-degree reckless injury or recklessly endangering safety, Linton could face fines, time in prison, or both.

Linton was convicted of four felonies in Milwaukee and two in Sheboygan between 2006 to 2014.

He did not sign a $500,000 cash bond set by the court and remains in the Sheboygan County Detention Center. A preliminary hearing in his case is scheduled for Dec. 16.
