Man charged with attempted murder after shooting

Dec. 18—OLIVE HILL — A Morehead man is in jail on an attempted murder charge after shooting a man in Olive Hill on Sunday morning, according to Kentucky State Police.

Paul J. Hensley, 40, is in the Carter County Detention Center facing the following charges: attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, third-degree drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

KSP Post 14 received a call from Carter County 911 at around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, according to a police citation. A man had been shot at 21847 West U.S. Highway 60 in Olive Hill.

According to KSP's preliminary investigation, Hensley got into an argument with Jonathan Bowling. Hensley, according to two statements to police, pulled a gun when the altercation escalated.

Bowling threw a stick at Hensley, according to records, and then Hensley shot Bowling in the right shoulder.

According KSP troopers, who met with Bowling at a local medical facility, Bowling had multiple wounds to his right shoulder "from what appeared to be projectiles fired from a shotgun."

KSP attempted to interview Hensley, but he declined to speak.

Hensley was arrested just before 5 p.m.

Upon a search warrant execution, police found two firearms, multiple rounds of live ammunition, a suppressor, drugs and drug paraphernalia at Hensley's residence in Morehead.
