Man Charged With Murder For Allegedly Running Over Pregnant Wife, Killing Unborn Baby

A Texas man is accused of running over his pregnant wife with a truck during an argument. She miscarried as a result of her injuries.

Christopher Gonzales, 26, has been charged with first-degree murder for the loss of the unborn child as well as second-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on Sunday, online jail records show.

The charges stem from a March incident in which Gonzales’ wife, who was eight months pregnant at the time, was run over by a truck, local outlet KOSA-TV reports. According to a Midland County Sheriff's Office arrest affidavit, obtained by the outlet, the woman had to be airlifted to a hospital where she was placed in the ICU. An emergency C-section surgery was performed, but the child still died. The wife, whose name has not been released, suffered a crushed pelvis and two fractured hips, the Midland-Reporter Telegram reports.

The woman told investigators that she arguing with Gonzales on the side of the road when she stepped onto the truck’s step rail. It was at that point, she recalled, that that truck started to move and she fell under the truck.

Gonzales allegedly confessed in April to knowingly driving the truck despite his wife standing on part of it. He said he then felt a bump and heard a scream, which allegedly indicated to him that he ran her over.

The husband is being held on a $150K bond. It’s not clear if he has a lawyer. The Midland County Sheriff's Office did not immediately respond to Oxygen.com’s request for comment.
